The Delta GREENS FIM Project is a collaborative, research-driven initiative designed to tackle health disparities, improve nutrition, and promote economic opportunity in the Mississippi Delta. By partnering with community leaders, including growers, health educators, food retailers, and local organizations, the project aims to build a stronger local food system and enhance access to fresh, nutritious foods for underserved populations.
Using a community-engaged approach, the project leverages decades of expertise from partners like Tougaloo College and Tufts University to develop innovative solutions tailored to the unique needs of Bolivar, Washington, and Sunflower counties. At the heart of this effort is a produce prescription program at the Delta Health Center, supported by a rigorous evaluation to measure its impact on health outcomes, including obesity and diabetes risk.
Through this partnership, the Delta GREENS FIM Project is empowering communities to lead the way in addressing nutrition insecurity and creating sustainable, evidence-based models for improving health and wellbeing in underserved regions across the country.
